Maps Design

MB UX is used in the entire new compact car generation from Mercedes-Benz and entered series production in spring 2018 in the new A-Class.

Its highlight is the comprehensive
touch operation concept – the combination of a touchscreen, a touchpad on the center console and Touch-Control buttons in the steering wheel. In addition to the intuitive operating experience, less driver distraction is another advantage.

Personalization

Just like with a smartphone, you can set up your personal profile with MB UX. The next time you get in the car, it knows what to do straight away. It also adjusts the air conditioning, the music, information complexity and the displays so everything is set the way you like it.

Voice Control

"Hey Mercedes" – two words are enough for the new A-Class to listen and – even better – it does what you ask. Thanks to the new revolutionary voice control, many functions can be controlled simply by your voice, ranging from the radio to climate control.

With the voice feature, I worked closely with the voice team to concept and created several voice wave visualizations and states.

Touch Input

Why is it that we like to touch everything? Because it's in our nature. Just like talking. And that's why the touchpad and the touchscreen, and even the buttons on the steering wheel react to your touch. Simple, natural and intuitive.

With this being the first Mercedes-Benz system with a touch screen, we had to create a design system that offered different affordances and input methods.

Head-up Display

Alongside the instrument cluster and head unit, I was also tasked to ideate and conceptualize the HUD control and functionality. Navigation instructions, speed limits or current speed – the new optional head-up display can be configured so that it only shows the user what they want to see. Exactly in the position they want.

My main task on MB UX was to create a visual system that works and spans across the entire system. After a year of ideation and concepts, a direction was chosen and I helped design the complete main system.

The next step of the process was to develop a style guide to which we were then able to hand over the files for a production team to implenment the rest of the system.

The MB UX revolutionizes the way we experience a vehicle's cockpit. Two high-resolution displays transform the environment of the car’s cockpit. The MB UX system uses artificial intelligence to craft an emotional connection between the driver and the car. Because it uses artificial intelligence it has the capacity to learn, and updates are uploaded via the cloud directly to the vehicle, making the MB UX consistently better as time goes on.
